Swiftwater Rescue Technician
Advanced Level 2
SRT2 teaches advanced applications of the skills learned in SRT1. It emphasizes victim rescue and recovery and sharpens rescue skills taught in SRT 1 within more difficult and hazardous environments. Horizontal rope systems are adapted to vertical situations and techniques for rescue and recovery management areexplored. The course is highlighted by the application of newly acquired search and rescue techniques during a limited visibility night search. Prerequisites: SRT 1
Topics include:
Understanding the role and utilization of various line systems, to search class I to III swiftwater, and in some instances, class IV to VI (hydraulics and waterfalls.)
Managing the raising and lowering of litters with patients, tending a litter, belaying of rescuers, basic rappelling, and highline systems.
Managing and conducting a night or low visibility river rescue.
Assessing and managing class VI swiftwater rescues beyond the capability of boat-based or swimming rescues.
Organizing for basic flood disaster management.
Students are exposed to more complex water rescue situations including completing of a mock night river rescue scenario.

What's included with your course
SRT 2 course manual, skills sheet and a certificate upon completion of the course. Students are required to bring or rent their own personal safety equipment (helmet, PFD, river clothing/shoes). What you should bring for your course
Students are required to provide their own personal protective equipment for the course: Water/kayak helmet, Type III-V whitewater approved lifejacket/PFD (preferably with a live-bait harness but not necessary), thick-soled water booties or tennis shoes (footwear should be a combination of sturdy with grip for moving quickly on slippery rocks plus lightweight and quick draining for swimming), gloves, drytop/drysuit/wetsuit (wetsuits available for rent), polypropylene/synthetic long sleeve shirt & tights/leggings, insulating layers, swimsuit, quick dry shorts, sunscreen, towel, bag to carry wet clothing to and from river, dryland clothing, personal effects, as well as tent, headlamp/flashlight & sleeping bag if camping.
