Esprit is a small, dynamic, outdoor adventure company specializing in whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, riverboarding, guide training, river rescue and international travel. Esprit employs approximately 35 seasonal employees from May until October, 20 of which are professional field staff operating all adventure programs. The additional 15 positions are key basecamp positions which service Esprit's guests. These positions include hostel coordinators, bar tenders, cooks, office/reservations, indoor/outdoor maintenance.
Esprit International operates in Mexico during the winter months of November through until March. Six of Esprit's top guides operate 1 week, 2 week and 6 week adventure travel programs in both the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca. Additional international work is available through Esprit's affiliate companies in Ecuador, Chile and India. Year round, full time employment is available for those field staff who show a commitment to excellence in both skill and guest relations as well as show positive leadership amongst fellow co-workers.
Bridging the gap between the summer season in Canada and the winter season in Mexico and Costa Rica is Esprit's WILD program. This intensive 80 day guide training program employs 4 specialty instructors of international caliber. Positions available include a kayaking specialist, rafting specialist, canoeing specialist and river rescue specialist. Preferably, all specialists should be capable of instructing in all 4 disciplines... however, exceptional strength in one area will be taken into consideration. Specialty instructors for WILD are hired on an individual basis for this program and all applicants are welcome.

An Esprit whitewater rafting guide is a highly trained and certified wilderness leader who guides a raft of guests down a river in a responsible, professional, secure and fun manner. Required certifications include: SRT Level 1, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR and CRC license. An Esprit whitewater riverboarding guide is a highly trained and certified wilderness leader capable of leading guests through rapids on riverboards in a responsible, professional, secure and fun manner. Riverboarding guides must be strong swimmers comfortable in class IV whitewater. Required certifications include: SRT Level 1, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR and CRC license. An Esprit Trip Leader is a highly trained and certified wilderness leader who is responsible for the entire operation of an Esprit whitewater rafting and/or riverboarding trip, the safety of both the guests and the guides as well as trip timing and logistics. Trip leaders are also responsible for the overall management of trip logistics, guide scheduling and overall management of the field staff. Required certifications include: SRT Level 1 and 2, Wilderness First Responder, CPR, CRC guide license, Valid bus license. A minimum of 4 years whitewater experience on class III-IV whitewater plus a 2 years international work experience is required. Bilingual with either French or Spanish is preferred.
An Esprit Kayak Instructor is a highly trained and certified instructor who is an effective communicator and displays exceptional leadership skills both on and off the water. Required certifications include: SRT level 1 and 2, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR, CRC guide License, WO Moving water Instructor, Valid bus license. A minimum of 2 years experience instructing in class II-III whitewater is preferred. Being functionally bilingual in either French or Spanish is also preferred.
An Esprit Photo/Video Kayaker is a skilled boater capable of running class IV whitewater and shooting quality photos and video highlights of the trip. He/She is an effective communicator and is able to present a video commentary in a fun, positive and professional manner. Photo/Video kayakers are also responsible for providing additional safety for the rafts and riverboards on all trips as well as for any additional kayakers paddling along with Esprit's commercial trip. They are also responsible for all shuttle pick-ups and drop-offs for Esprit guests in Ottawa. Required certifications include: SRT level 1, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR, CRC guide license. A minimum of 2 years experience working on class III-IV whitewater is preferred.
An Esprit canoe tripping guide is a highly trained and certified wilderness leader capable of guiding one day and multi-day excursions in a professional, responsible and enjoyable manner. Certifications include: SRT level 1, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR, CRC guide license, LNT Instructor, Safe Food handling course. A minimum of 2 years experience leading canoe tripping programs on multi-day excursions is preferred.
WILD specialty instructors are highly trained and certified instructors who show exceptional skills in their area of specialty (kayaking, rafting, river rescue, canoe tripping). They are effective communicators and facilitators who show dynamic leadership and enthusiasm. Esprit's kitchen staff are key members of the Esprit team who provide the essential service of creating healthy, delicious meals for both our guests and our staff. Experience and knowledge in meal planning and preparation is an asset to the job, however, training is provided for interested individuals with no prior experience. A safe food handling course is recommended. Minimum 18 years old.
Esprit's bar tenders are responsible for the responsible serving of alcoholic beverages to guests. They are also responsible for the "meet and greet" of late night arrivals including providing tours of the facility and arranging camping and hostel accommodation. Bar tenders also manage the campfire area on the waterfront and are responsible for setting the nightly fire (fire restrictions permitting) for our guest's enjoyment. Experience and a bar tending course are preferred, however, training is provided for interested individuals with no prior experience. Minimum 18 years old.
Pointe staff are key members of the Esprit team which carry out all the necessary logistics of running the basecamp and maintaining its cleanliness. There are no required certifications, however, applicants must be minimum of 18 years of age.
Esprit office and reservation staff are the lifeline of everyone employed at Esprit. They are the front line staff which interact with all Esprit's guests and co-ordinate all programs and packages. Office staff are positive, sincere, friendly and are willing to bend over backwards to make each and every guest's experience with Esprit unforgettable. Office staff must be familiar with operating windows based computer programs and be comfortable with the internet. Minimum age is 18.
Esprit is a member of Hostelling International (HI) and is open to FIT (foreign independent travelers) from April until October. As many as 20 different nationalities are staying at Auberge Esprit and take advantage of the facilities, the local area and the different adventure programs available through Esprit. The Hostel Coordinators job involves meeting the traveler's as they arrive at Esprit, promoting the various opportunities for adventure available to them, assisting with any of the travelers needs and overall insuring their stay with Esprit is unforgettable. The Hostel Coordinator is also responsible for the management of the hostel overnights, scheduling of rooms and guide services. Required certifications include SRT level 1, Wilderness First Responder (72 hour first aid course), CPR, CRC guide license and hostel management experience (minimum 1 year). It is strongly preferred that the Hostel coordinator speak a minimum of 2 languages other than English.
