Coulonge River - 2 Day Canoe Trip

Canoeing the Coulonge River

Overview

The Coulonge river flows through classic Canadian Shield scenery. From the river's source in La Vérendrye Park to the confluence with the Ottawa River, it drops nearly 700 feet as it cascades over a series of thunderous waterfalls and wanders through runable, rock studded rapids.

Nearly 300 million years ago, fault lines scored huge channels deep into the rock as the earth cooled. The Coulonge River runs follows the path of one of these faults. During our two days on the Coulonge, we will explore the section of river from Poplar rapids to the Terry Fox Bridge. Featuring ledge style drops with deep channel runs, the whitewater on the Coulonge River provides excellent opportunities for you to learn new skills and gain confidence canoeing class I-II rapids.

Itinerary

Day 1 7:00 pm Meet your guides and fellow paddlers
Day 2 7:00-8:30 am Breakfast in Esprit's dinning hall
  8:30 am Pack and depart for river
  10:00 am - 5:00 pm Canoeing along the Coulonge
  6:00 pm Dinner at campsite
Day 3 8:00 am Breakfast
  9:00 am Depart for 2nd day of canoe trip
  4:00 pm Arrive at take-out
 

 What's included in your adventure

The Coulonge 2-Day trip includes 2 days of canoeing, 1 night camping at Esprit's lodge, 1 night camping on the river, 2 breakfasts, 2 riverside lunches, 1 dinner, all safety and paddling equipment, internationally certified guides, local transportation, complimentary après canoeing beer, juice or soft drink.

What you should bring with you for your adventure

All your mandatory safety equipment is provided for you. Therefore, all you need to bring with you are some personal items to help make your trip even more enjoyable. We recommend that you bring a pair of shoes or sandals to wear on the river (they will get wet!), 1 pair of shoes for camp, your swimsuit and/or shorts, sunscreen, hat, water bottle, 1 warm sweater (fleece or wool), 1 long pair of pants (quick dry, fleece or wool), 1 waterproof jacket and pants, 1-2 pairs of socks (wool or fleece), personal toiletries, towel, sleeping bag, sleeping pad (thermarest or foam).
