Barron Canyon - Canoe Day Trip

Canoeing - Barron Canyon - Day Trips

Overview

The Barron Canyon day trip takes us beyond the eastern gateway of Algonquin Park to a wilderness area of spectacular rugged beauty. First we explore the canyon from its rim, over 100 m from the river below. The walk will take us along a 1.5 km long interpretive trail that passes through the pine forest. At the canyon's rim, the views are breathtaking as we look down the red chasm walls and across the seemingly endless evergreen forest.

At Bringham's Chute, we will enter the Barron River and begin paddling downstream. Enroute, we will paddle through small streams and lakes, stop for a swim under a waterfall and enjoy a scenic riverside lunch. Ultimately, we reach the canyon. As we paddle through the canyon, look out for Barn Swallows and Eastern Phoebes nesting on the canyon walls and rare relict plants from glacial times, such as the Encrusted Saxifrage and Fragrant Cliff Fern. With over 10,000 years of ancient history, the Barron Canyon canoe trip is the perfect way to experience this natural wonder.
